Chiropractic FAQs for Families & Pediatric Care in Lee’s Summit

These are some of the most common questions we hear from families in Lee’s Summit and the Kansas City area. If you don’t see your question here, we’re always happy to talk.

Care for Families & Children

Is chiropractic care safe for babies and children?

Yes. Pediatric chiropractic care is safe, gentle, and specifically adapted to a child’s developing nervous system when provided by a trained provider.

At First Light Chiropractic in Lee’s Summit, care for babies and children uses light, low-force adjustments designed to support healthy brain–body communication, regulation, and adaptability. Many families seek care to support sleep, digestion, emotional regulation, motor development, and recovery from stress or birth-related tension.

Chiropractic care for children is never about force — it’s about helping the nervous system function more efficiently as the body grows.

What ages do you see?

We care for patients of all ages — from newborns to teenagers, and entire families.

This includes:

  • Newborns and infants

  • Toddlers and young children

  • School-aged kids and teens

  • Pregnant and postpartum parents

  • Anyone wanting to better regulate their nervous system

Each stage of development places different demands on the nervous system. Care is always tailored to the child’s age, size, and individual needs, with a focus on safety, comfort, and long-term nervous system health.

Families often appreciate being able to receive care in one place as their children grow.

Pregnancy & Postpartum Care

Is chiropractic safe during pregnancy?

Yes. When provided by a trained provider, chiropractic care during pregnancy is safe, gentle, and specifically adapted to support the changing nervous system and biomechanics of a pregnant body. At First Light Chiropractic in Lee’s Summit, techniques are modified for comfort and safety, with a focus on supporting regulation, mobility, and adaptability throughout pregnancy.

Is chiropractic care helpful during postpartum recovery?

Yes. Postpartum chiropractic care focuses on supporting the nervous system as it adapts after pregnancy, birth, and ongoing physical demands such as feeding, carrying, and sleep disruption. At First Light Chiropractic in Lee’s Summit, care is gentle and individualized, with the goal of restoring regulation, mobility, and resilience during the postpartum transition.

Athletes & Active Care

Does chiropractic care help with athletic performance?

Yes. Athletic performance depends on how efficiently the nervous system controls movement and integrates training stress. Neurologically focused chiropractic care supports clearer brain–body communication, which can improve coordination, movement efficiency, and the body’s ability to adapt to training over time.

Can chiropractic care help with recovery and soreness?

Chronic soreness and slow recovery often reflect nervous system overload rather than muscle weakness alone. When the nervous system remains in a heightened stress state, recovery processes are less efficient. Gentle chiropractic care helps support regulation so the body can shift more effectively into repair and recovery.

Why do injuries keep recurring even with
proper training?

Recurring injuries often develop when the nervous system struggles to adapt to cumulative physical stress. Even with good programming, poor nervous system regulation can limit coordination and recovery, increasing injury risk. Supporting nervous system function helps improve resilience and reduce repetitive strain patterns.

Nervous System Chiropractic Care

What makes nervous system care different?

Nervous system–based chiropractic care focuses on how efficiently the brain and body communicate, not just where pain shows up. Instead of only addressing symptoms, this approach supports regulation and adaptability so the body can respond to stress, heal, and function more effectively over time. When the nervous system is supported, improvements often extend beyond pain relief to movement quality, recovery, and overall resilience.

Your First Visit - What to Expect

Do you take insurance or offer payment plans?

We are a cash-based practice and do not bill insurance directly. This allows us to provide individualized, comprehensive care without restrictions. However, we’re happy to provide superbills for reimbursement and accept HSA to make care accessible for families and individuals. Visits are paid per visit at time of service.

Do I need a referral or x-rays before my first visit?

Referrals or x-rays are not required before a first visit. At your first visit, we use INSiGHT™ neuro scans to assess how your nervous system is functioning, which gives us a clear picture without the need for radiation. We also go through a detailed exam based on your individual needs. If imaging is ever necessary, we’ll guide you through that process.

What should I wear to my first visit?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your back and neck (like a t-shirt, comfortable bra for women, or loose-fitting top). You’ll stay fully clothed for all visits, with the exception of being gowned for your INSiGHT™ scan.
